Hemi V8s Are Roaring Back: Dodge and Ram Muscle Power Lives On!

If you thought the legendary Hemi V8 was gone for good, think again. Ram trucks and Dodge muscle cars are bringing back the power for 2025, and gearheads everywhere have reason to celebrate.

Two weeks ago, a Wisconsin dealer leaked a bombshell: the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is officially returning to the Ram 1500 lineup after a brief hiatus where the popular truck went six-cylinder only. Now, fresh reports suggest that’s just the beginning.

According to sources speaking with MoparInsiders, production of multiple Hemi V8 engines — including the mighty 6.4-liter “392” Hemi and the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 — will resume this August at the Dundee Engine Plant in Michigan. Not only are these engines headed for Ram trucks, but they’re also being prepped for the highly anticipated 2025 Dodge Charger, which originally launched as an all-electric model.

Dodge Charger to Get a Hemi Heart Again

While Dodge initially committed to a future without V8s, insiders now reveal engineers are feverishly working to fit the classic Hemi under the hood of the new Dodge Charger. Early reports suggest the V8-powered Charger could hit showrooms as soon as next year, giving muscle car fans the roar and rumble they crave.

The Hemi versions are expected to be based on familiar designs, but performance upgrades may be on the table. Some sources even hint at a brand-new Hemi variant with more displacement than the already massive 6.4-liter engine.

This is a major pivot from Dodge’s previous electric-only direction and signals that the Hemi V8 — and American muscle — aren’t going quietly into the night.

Ram 1500: More V8 Muscle Than Ever

The internal leaks also reveal that both the 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter V8s will now be available in Ram 1500 trucks — a major shift since the 6.4-liter was previously reserved only for heavy-duty models. This move could help Ram reclaim its spot in the competitive pickup market, especially after sales slumped with the switch to six-cylinder engines.

The Ram 1500 briefly offered only the twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six and the tried-and-true Pentastar V6 for the 2025 model year. But with CEO Tim Kuniskis reportedly realizing that the lack of a V8 may have hurt sales, it looks like the Hemi’s comeback is part of a bigger strategy to reignite passion among Ram enthusiasts.

Jeep Joins the V8 Comeback Party

The Hemi revival may not be limited to Dodge and Ram either. Reports say that 5,000 additional Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 models will be built for 2025, even after Jeep had already introduced a supposed “Final Edition.” It seems there’s no real “final” when it comes to V8 power.

Whether models like the Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, or next-gen Dodge Durango will also see the return of Hemi options remains to be seen. But the fact that the current Durango SRT Hellcat is still going strong gives us hope.

Why the Hemi Comeback Matters

The return of the Hemi might be about more than just performance. With a potential rollback of stricter federal fuel economy rules under a possible Trump administration, automakers like Stellantis could feel more confident doubling down on gas-powered V8s alongside EV development.

For now, one thing is clear: the Hemi V8 is back, and it’s bringing American muscle roaring into 2025 and beyond.
